Claire Smith, born in 1969 Portsmouth England, works primarily in acrylic on canvas. She is concerned with capturing the aesthetic essence, of what is beautiful, in the nature around her. The work starts with photographs and digital sketches before being further developed on canvas.

 She Studied at Falmouth school of art , where she received a 1st class, BA Honours degree in Fine Art painting and printmaking, in 1991.  She was a Member of Coventry artists cooperative 1992-1995, exhibited as part of international woman's week in Berlin 1995. 

 Claire moved to  Kristiansand, Norway in 1995 and where she continued to make work, teach and have exhibitions. She exhibits her work with Arteriet, Kristiansand. 

 Her art work is in many private residences in Norway the UK, the Netherlands, Australia and the U.S. Works have been  purchased by, Nursing Home Services Limited UK, Lindesnes Kommune, and Falmouth University UK. She has completed murals at Kristiansand International School, and Rådyrveien electricity sub station. 

Claire has recently moved to Berkeley California, where she is currently working on themes of light and space from nature.
